A serene landscape divided by two paths, each flanked by different political party flags, with a central Bible on a pedestal under a dramatic sky, symbolizing divine guidance over political divisions.

God is Not a Democrat or a Republican

This sermon emphasizes the need for Christians to base their political decisions on faith and divine guidance rather than party lines. It discusses the impact of spirituality on responsible citizenship and the pursuit of God's will above all.

We Americans need to stop going off our emotions and start listening to our hearts and The Holy Spirit. I read this on the BJC Website, written by J. Brent Walker: “We will measure the candidates by whether they enhance human life, human dignity, and human rights; whether they strengthen family life and protect children; whether they promote racial reconciliation and support gender equality; whether they serve peace and social justice; and whether they advance the common good rather than only individual, national, and special interests. We also admonish both parties and candidates to avoid the exploitation of religion or our congregations for partisan political purposes. By signing this statement, we call Christians and other people of faith to a more thoughtful involvement in this election, rather than claiming God’s endorsement of any candidate. This is the meaning of responsible Christian citizenship.”

People of faith—proceeding in good faith and for essentially religious reasons—can come to different conclusions about whom to vote for and what policies to support. As the great evangelical theologian Carl F. H. Henry once said, “There is no one direct line from the Bible to the ballot box.”

Faithful discipleship and responsible citizenship require us to say “No” to those who assert a divine imperative for any party or candidate and who claim to know with cocksure certainty the mind of God.

Let our religious convictions influence how we vote. But in the final analysis, our votes should be based on which candidate would best serve the commonweal and most. He is right; we as Christians should judge each party’s policies to see if it lines up with the Word of God. In 1st John 4:1 it says, “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.” Only be sheep to God, for you only have one Shepherd, and He is Jesus Christ, our Lord & Savior.

In this time where we live, remember both prejudice and lawlessness have their roots in evil. I believe this is why God gave us President Donald J. Trump, who is not a politician. In the book of Daniel, Trump is King Cyrus, who gave the Jews the ability to rebuild Jerusalem. He has done everything he told us he would do. So he keeps his promise. He stands up for Christianity and the rights of every other religion. He has stood up against abortion, that is the murder of unborn children. He has had numerous prayer days in the White House. He has not pushed the LGBTQ agenda like Obama crammed it down our throats. But he also loves and respects them as any Christian should love their neighbor.

To me, President Donald J. Trump is a gift from God and a chance to repent and turn back to God. Then we can unite and rebuild God’s Church here in America and around the world. It is not about us or a political agenda but it is about God’s Will and His Kingdom! Blessed be the King of all Kings and may His Kingdom rule forever and ever!

Amen & Shalom.
